What This Covers
How consignment inventory works in Odoo — receiving, tracking, and selling goods you don't own until they sell.
How Consignment Works
- Receive consignment goods — Create a receipt from the consignor. The key difference: receive into a Consignment location (not your regular stock).
- Track ownership — Odoo tracks the owner on each stock move. Consignment items show the consignor as owner.
- Sell normally — Ring up consignment items just like regular inventory. The POS/SO processes are the same.
- Settle with consignor — After the item sells, create a vendor bill to the consignor for their share of the proceeds. This is typically done on a scheduled basis (weekly, monthly).
Common Errors
- "Error when receiving consignment items" — Check that the consignment stock location exists and is properly configured. Go to Inventory > Configuration > Warehouses and look for the consignment location.
- Consignment items showing in QOH — If consignment items count toward your QOH, the location may be set up as an internal location instead of a consignment/partner location. Review the location type.
- Consignment reporting — To see what's on consignment, filter inventory by Owner (the consignor's name) or by the consignment location.
